Online Therapy in Virginia: How It Works and Who It Helps

Virginia is several different states wearing one name. The pace in Arlington is not the pace in Roanoke. The commute that eats Northern Virginia does not exist on the Eastern Shore. What these places share is that almost everyone in them is stretched, and almost nobody has an extra ninety minutes in the week for a drive to an office.

That is the practical case for online therapy here, and it is the reason most of my Virginia clients give for finally starting.

Who I work with in Virginia

Adults carrying high-functioning anxiety and perfectionism. Often in demanding roles, often the person everyone else relies on, often exhausted in a way that a vacation does not fix.

Couples and individuals in the middle of a transition. A move, a divorce, becoming a parent, a career change, the house getting quiet after the last one leaves.

Teenagers, and the parents who are worried about them. This age group takes to video far better than most adults expect.

How it actually works

We start with a free fifteen-minute video call. You say what is going on, I ask a few questions, and I tell you honestly whether I think I can help. If I am not the right fit, I will point you somewhere better. There is no paperwork attached to that call and no obligation after it.

If we go ahead, most people have their first full session within a week. Sessions run fifty minutes on secure video. Evening appointments are available, which for anyone managing school pickup or a Northern Virginia commute is usually the deciding factor.

What you need is a private space, a device with a camera, and a decent connection. That is it.

The rule about location

You need to be physically in Virginia during our sessions, because that is how licensure works. You do not need to live here year-round. Students at school in state, people who travel for work, and clients who split their time all qualify. If you also spend time in Tennessee, I am licensed there too, so we do not have to interrupt anything.

What therapy is not going to do

It is not going to make you a calmer version of the same over-functioning person. The point is not to help you tolerate a life that is grinding you down more efficiently. The point is to figure out what you actually want and what is standing between you and it.

If that sounds like the conversation you have been putting off, the first fifteen minutes are free.
